Petrofac is a large global oil services company that is primarily engaged in infrastructure construction both upstream and downstream, with a large presence in the Middle East. Revenues last year were £6.09bn. In recent years the company has been impacted by the slowdown in the oil and gas sector due to the fall in the oil price. As a results profits have fallen, though group revenues have held up well. As I write this on Friday 12th May shares in the company have fallen by 15% following a raid by the SFO in relation to corruption allegations relating to the company’s operations in Kazakhstan.
