SIGnet Investors Network Launches New Group for Beginners

Twelve months ago SIGnet launched two new virtual groups aimed at those interested in learning the basics of investing. These groups were structured as 10 month courses.  Feedback from participants who completed the courses was extremely positive, so we are excited to announce that SIGnet will be offering these courses again starting in October.

The Beginners’ Group will cover the basics of how to select, buy and sell shares. The Conveners will be Paul Fisher and John Calvert of the Leeds Originals and Veritas Groups. Both are keen investors and have been SIGnet members for over 25 years!  There will be 8 topics:

  • Shares
  • Bonds
  • Terms and Ratios
  • ISAs and SIPPS
  • Diversification
  • Investment Trusts, Unit Trusts (Funds), and Exchange Traded Funds (ETF)
  • Portfolio Theory
  • Charting

The Intermediate Group will be for those who already have some experience of investing, but want to develop their knowledge of analysing companies, investment strategies and building and managing a portfolio. The Convener will be Bill Fawkner-Corbett, who has been an active private investor since 2008, and is Head of SIGnet. The 8 topics will be:

  • Beating the Market
  • Financial Statements and Ratios
  • Valuation
  • Screens
  • Investing Styles
  • Portfolio Management
  • Technical Analysis
  • Investment Trusts and Exchange Traded Funds

Meetings will take place once per month on weekday evenings via Zoom. Meetings will generally start with a 30 minute presentation, followed by a 30-60 minute discussion. The first Group meetings will be in the second half of October.

You are invited: to an initial online launch meeting to hear more about both of these groups, meet other investors, and confirm the details of future group meetings. Due to popular demand we will be holding two sessions (each covering the same content).  The first session being held at 7:00pm on 23 September is already full, the second session will be held at 8pm on 23 September and you can register here.  The meetings are expected to last approximately 60 minutes. Launch meetings are open to anyone with an interest in our new groups, but you will need to join SIGnet (if not already a member) to attend subsequent meetings.

SIGnet groups are for: discussion about shares and investing. SIGnet groups offer an opportunity to meet, socialise with and learn from fellow investors.

SIGnet groups are NOT for: promotion of any financial products or services. They are run by their members for their members’ mutual exchange of knowledge and enjoyment.

Benefits of being part of a group:

  • Learn from the experience of other investors, and share yours
  • Hear and debate new stock, fund or trust ideas
  • Discuss how to be a better investor
  • Improve your investing network, make friends with other investors
  • Have some fun!

You can visit the SIGnet website to learn more about SIGnet and its groups.
